A pair of newlyweds are the 1,700th buyers who have found their dream home with Barratt Manchester at the Riverside View development in Lancaster, thanks to the government-backed Help to Buy scheme.

Emma (28) and Hannah (29) Armitage, who recently married, were attracted to the development because of its convenient location and the layout of their new home, the Helmsley.

The first time buyers were able to take advantage of the Help to Buy scheme by putting down just a 5% deposit, so they could afford to pay for their wedding at the same time.

The government initiative is assisting a number of families in Lancaster to get on to the housing ladder. New figures released by Homes England reveal that a total of 368 homebuyers in Lancaster have used the Help to Buy scheme since it was launched nearly five years ago.

Hannah, who is originally from Devon said, “We only wanted to put down a 5% deposit as we were planning our wedding, so the scheme allowed us to buy sooner than we might have been able to otherwise.”

Michaela Lancaster, Sales Director at Barratt Manchester said, “We’re delighted that Help to Buy could help Hannah and Emma buy their ideal home at our development. This is a huge milestone for the business and we’re happy that we could celebrate this with them.

“Help to Buy is extremely important for existing homeowners as well as first time buyers. Getting on to the property ladder can be difficult financially but Help to Buy is able to bring someone’s ideal home within reach.

“For us, this marks nearly five years helping people like the Armitage’s move into their dream home.”
