First time buyers are enjoying life in their new home thanks to Help to Buy

First time buyers Laura, 25, and Daniel, 29, are enjoying life in their new home thanks to Help to Buy.

The young couple have just moved into a brand new three bedroom home at The Bakestones, a new development in the village of Delph, Oldham. Developed by Three60 Property Investors, the development boasts 46 stylish new homes including two, three and four bedroom properties set in a traditional village setting.

Having recently moved back to the UK from Australia, the couple were looking to buy a home of their own and were recommended The Bakestones by their friends who had also bought a home at the development.

Laura explains, “My friend had bought off-plan and we really liked her house. We had looked at other developments in the area but we much preferred these homes as they had so much more space and character. I grew up just 2 miles from here so the location was perfect too.”

Once they decided The Bakestones was for them they spoke to the estate agent for the site, Ryder and Dutton, who explained all about the Help to Buy equity loan scheme.

Through the Help to Buy scheme, you only need to raise a 5% deposit and can access the support of up to 20% in the form of an equity loan from the Government. There's nothing to pay on the loan for five years as it is interest free until year 6.

Laura says, “I knew a little bit about the scheme and presumed you had to pay the loan back straight away but we were informed that wasn’t the case. It was a lot easier than I thought as well, really straight forward. It made it possible for us to buy the house we really wanted rather than settling. And we’re paying about the same for our brand new 3-bed semi as we were renting a 2-up 2-down!”

The couple received the keys to their new home at the end of July and are now enjoying life in their new home.

“Everything is brand new and so clean!” Laura laughs, “We waited so long for this that’s it’s just really exciting. We have one of the end Mews style homes with its own balcony and I love the fact that it’s really light and airy. We can’t wait to put our own stamp on it.”

And now that they’ve joined their friends as part of The Bakestones community will they be recommending it to others?

“Definitely!” says Laura, “Anyone thinking of buying at The Bakestones or using Help to Buy should go for it.”
