Housing Association FAQ’s

Who is a registered provider?

A Registered Provider is anyone registered to offer Low Cost Home Ownership products under either of the following programmes:

  • Affordable Homes Programme 15-18 (North West)
  • Shared Ownership Affordable Homes Programme 16-21 (North West)

For providers outside of the Agency’s programme we may be able to process applications in return for an administration fee. Please contact Michael Ravenscroft for more information.

Which schemes do you process applications for?

We currently process applications for Shared Ownership, Older Persons Shared Ownership and Rent to Homebuy properties for all Registered Providers. This includes properties new to the market as well as resales.

How long does it take to process an application?

We process all applications within 4 working days. If the applicants have selected you as their chosen provider we will email you a copy of their acceptance letter, application form and any other supporting documents we are in receipt of.

Could anything delay the process?

If an application is incorrect or missing information it will be placed on hold until the required information is received.

What do you assess?

Upon receipt of the application we run a broad-brush assessment checking the following criteria:

  • Maximum house hold income £80,000
  • Current living arrangements (e.g. Social Tenants, Living with Family, Existing Shared Owner)
  • Guaranteed source of income
  • Deposit available (For Shared Ownership and OPSO Only)
  • Applicants age (For OPSO only - 55+)
  • General affordability

What do we do once we receive an application from HTBNW?

Once we forward you an application, it is your responsibility as the Registered Provider to run a more in-depth assessment, collect supporting documents, and run the set affordability calculator which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/capital-funding-guide/1-help-to-buy-shared-ownership.  Please note the calculator cannot be used for cash purchasers.

Can we request a copy of an application and acceptance letters?

You can only request further copies of an applicant’s file if they have selected you as their chosen provider on their application form. If they fail to select you we require the request to come from them via email giving us permission to amend their application and send a copy over to you.

Can we offer HOLD?

It is at your discretion whether you decide to offer HOLD on a property. The applicant must apply for Shared Ownership in the normal way and we will process the application and forward it to you to proceed with.

Can we request data?

We can provide data on Low Cost Home Ownership across the North West region upon request to Registered Providers.  This data will not specifically identify any individuals to you or provide you with their contact details.

If you would like to promote a development to a targeted group we can send this on your behalf to those agreed to marketing.

Can we advertise our properties on your website?

If you are a Registered Provider under one of the following programmes you can advertise your properties on our website free of charge:

  • Affordable Homes Programme 15-18 (North West)
  • Shared Ownership Affordable Homes Programme 16-21 (North West)

Just contact our Digital Marketing Officer Stuart Lee for further details.

If you are not a Registered Provider but would like this option please contact Mike Ravenscroft for further details.
